Warraling Creek Passive Solar Polyculture Lagoon

At the beginning of 2004 QUARRALUNA received a Commonwealth Government Envirofund Natural Heritage Trust grant towards this riparian salt solution solar technology project. The aim of the initiative is to effect a permanent water source through a practical solution to what is predominately perceived as a salt problem ~ rather than a liquid asset.

Lacus Somniorum

The major earthworks for the project were completed in Autumn 2004. The pivotal opening up of Lacus Somniorum (Lake of Dreams), occured when an ancestoral subterranean river spring was birthed within the riparian salt ecosystem. Highly designed earthmoving over many years brings to fullfullment the interconnection of QUARRALUNA's matrix of water harvesting dams, ponds, basins, swales and pits. This has created an inland oasis with a maze of 15 km of walk trails in this 300mm rainfall zone.

The first stage sees the saline water solar pumped to the Plant Site where an array of 18 solar water purifiers heats, condenses and evaporates this to absolutely pure distillate ~ the most pure water your ever likely to taste! Working in tandem, stage 3 will include a highly efficient solar powered Reverse Osmosis unit, desalinating water for the settlement and summer irrigation of the many perennial and world tree crops growing at QUARRALUNA.

Solar Still - close up

This nevo tech Plant Site has undergone a distinct transformation from old farm rubbish dump, gravel pit and escaping winter wetland to a New Paradigm Display. Showcasing passive and active solar water purification technologies, solar water pumping and state of the art photovoltaic renewable energy systems with other innovative earth friendly inventions.
